Write out either (1) a pangram i.e., a sentence containing all the letters of the alphabet or (2) two lines from our National Anthem. Handwriting needs to be neat and consistent.

POETRY WRITING—Years 3 and 4
Sports Poem
Write an original poem of 4 stanzas of 4 lines each to capture the looks, sounds and action of your favourite sport. Similes and metaphors may add to the impact of the poem. The
poem does not need to rhyme.
Years 5 and 6
Write an original poem which captures the action of your favourite sport. Each line is 2 words, and each line of the couplet has an end rhyme.
Two couplets join to create a 4-line stanza. Below is an example of a Sports Poem.
Footy Match
Loud sound
On ground,
Players ready
All steady.
Bounce ball
Someone tall,
Passes neat
Over feet.
Handpass flick
Giant kick,
Flying past
Very fast.
Miss goal
Hit pole,
Crowd cheer
Some jeer.

Write an original story about a Treasure Hunt. It can be fun-filled or a disaster. The story must fit on one piece of A4 paper. F. Year 5 G. Year 2
OPINION WRITING—Years 5 & 6 only. (Group Final)
Title: “Pets are an important part of the family”. Handwritten or typed entries on A4 paper—maximum 150 words. The opinion piece will be judged on content only.

SHORT STORY— Years 7 & 8
Write an original short story of 400 words or less. The title of the story is A Mystery. Must be on A4 paper and handwritten or typed. The winning entry will be published in the Mansfield Courier.
J. Year 7 & K. Year 8
GENERAL STORY WRITING - Years 3-8
L. Write an original piece on the topic, “Dogs are Great” of up to 400 words either fiction or non-fiction. The writing can explore the history of the dog, a dog related event or your relationship with a dog.

OTHER WRITING (non-school competition)
ADULT TRADITIONAL BUSH POETRY *
Write an original poem of between 16-40 lines in a rhyming bush poetry style. The subject of the poem is to be related to rural/bush life. Poems to be sent to Mansfield Bush Poetry Competition, PO Box 304, Mansfield, 3724 or emailed to mansfieldap@outlook.com with entry form by Friday 3 November. The winning entry will receive a $50 cash prize.
The Mansfield High Country Poets' group will be performing in the Luncheon Pavilion at 11 am on show day.
